Award-winning Pianist and Vocal Artist, Shannon Hope, has been tugging on South African heart strings since the release of her debut solo album in 2009, with intriguingly powerful songs - straight from the heart. Knut Otto, from Visioninja was commissioned to capture Shannon, in a way that reflects her character as well as music.
Part of the photographic challenge was to communicate the emotive depth of Shannon's work. As Kgomotso Moncho mentioned in Tonight, July 2010: “What you see when you look at her is rock ‘n roll, but what you hear when she plays is heart and soul.” Based on this, an emphasis on the intensity of the personal, creative process that leads to her unique, emotive Rock style, was needed.
We worked closely with the artist to bring this feeling to life - and, after a half-day shoot at Visioninja Studio in Cape Town,
the images were carefully retouched and graded to create
a unique look and feel, that reflects the same intensity
communicated via Shannon's interaction with the camera.
